We have put together some pointers to consider when packing. We hope you will find them useful!

China ornaments and delicates

  • Before packing the box place a layer of screwed up packing paper about 2 inches thick in the bottom
  • Wrap each item separately and always place the heaviest at the bottom
  • Finish with another layer of screwed up packing paper before sealing

Plates and kitchen items

  • Pack plates one on top of another. Start with the largest at the bottom and place a sheet of packing paper in between and screwed up paper in the corners of the box
  • Cups, mugs, glasses, bowls etc should be wrapped in packing paper and padded out with screwed up paper in between
  • Pack knives all facing the same way
  • Try to pack things the right way up
  • Do not overfill the boxes or leave things protruding as this makes handling more difficult and increases the risk of damage
  • Try not to make boxes too heavy as you might need to move them when we are not around
  • Mark with delicate

Other tips and pointers

  • Bedding can be placed in plastic liners on the morning of the move
  • Un-plumb dishwashers and washing machines the day prior to the move. We can do this if you wish, warning must be given
  • Dwindle the contents of your fridge and freezer weeks in advance. Defrost the day before your
  • move. You should allow on average 4 hours of standing time before you switch them back on after the move. This ensures the gases have settled. Please refer to your manual in case your recommended time is different
  • Disconnect gas and electric fires and replace with correct fittings and caps
  • Hi-fi, dvd players and computers should have their drawers free of any discs as when you restart them they may jam. Pack them securely in boxes
  • Lamp shades should be removed from their fittings, packed and marked as breakable
  • Fuel filled items should be emptied prior to the move. Mark them with caution and inform us prior to the move
  • Carpets should have tacks removed. Roll them instead of folding as this stops creasing and makes it easier to relay them. Please inform us if you are taking any or all of your carpets
  •  Remember to load last any items that you will need immediately upon arrival. Mark clearly with load last.
